20 Reasons to use Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender - Remedy for many health problems


  1. Aching Muscles
    If you’ve spent a back-breaking afternoon in the garden, jump into a lavender bath to soothe aches & pains away. Apply Epsom salts & a few drops of Lavender Oil to the bath and soak away the tension.
  2. Acne
    Lavender is one of the most valuable oils for the treatment of acne, according to aromatherapists. “It inhibits the bacteria that cause the skin infection, helps to rebalance the over-secretion of sebum, which the bacteria thrive on, and reduce scarring”. Add a few drops of lavender oil to a plain cream sold by chemists and use as a moisturizer or cleanser.
  3. Bugs & Bacteria
    French laboratory studies in the early 20th century showed that lavender is a powerful antibacterial in dilutions of 5 per cent or less it is lethal to bacteria that cause typhoid, TB & diphtheria. Combined with Lemon Balm, for its clinically tested anti-viral properties.
  4. Burns (minor)
    After you have cooled the area by immersing it in running cold water for 5 minutes, gently stroke on neat lavender oil. Pain relief is almost immediate, and burn usually heals without scarring.
  5. Cuts & Wounds
    Apply lavender oil to sooth pain, prevent bacterial infection and aid scar-free healing. Apply neat.
  6. Earache
    Warm a bottle of lavender oil in hot water for a minute or two, then gently massage a few drops into the skin around the ears and throat. For babies & small children, add 2-3 drops of the warmed oil to a little olive oil and massage in the same way.
  7. Eczema
    Stroke infused lavender oil (a few drops of lavender oil & carrier oil) into dry, itchy skin—small children will find this especially comforting or add a few drops of lavender oil to calamine lotion, shake before use.
  8. Fatigue
    Add 5 drops of lavender oil to a hot foot bath and relax while your feet soak in it. The soles of the feet are particularly porous, so lavender reaches your bloodstream very quickly, exerting its stimulating and soothing effects on various systems of your body.
  9. Fevers
    For babies or small children, sponge them down very gently with tepid water to which you have added a drop of lavender oil. Take care not to let them get chilled. This works for adults too.
  10. Giddy Spells, Faintness or Pulpitations
    Make your own smelling salts—sea salt , lavender oil, peppermint oil & basil oil.
  11. Headache
    The distilled water of Lavender (Hydrosol) Mist around your head, is refreshing and soothing. Alternatively, make a compress of a piece of cause or muslin soaked in icy cold water then sprinkled with a few drops of lavender oil and apply to the forehead, or massage a few drops into the forehead, temples and nape of the neck.
  12. Insomnia
    In a number of small studies, elderly psychiatric patients have been shown to sleep better and be more alert during the day when their sleep medication is replaced with lavender oil either dropped on their pillows, or placed in a diffuser on the ward. To help to induce sleep, put 3 or 4 drops of lavender oil on your pillow. For babies, add 1 drop of lavender oil & geranium oil in carrier oil and massage into a babies back or a few drops in their bedtime bath.
  13. Long-Haul Travel
    Combine lavender, rosemary, Neroli, frankincense & clary sage, into your hand luggage and roll it over your pulse points to help you keep a clear head during those endless hours in the air.
  14. Menstrual Cramps
    Massage a few drops of lavender oil into your lower abdomen or apply a hot compress onto the area, which a little lavender oil has been sprinkled.
  15. Moths,Midges & Mosquitos
    These annoying little insects all hate the smell of lavender. To prevent bites, splash yourself with lavender hydrosol before you go out at sunset or to bed, put 3-4 drops of oil on your pillow or soak cotton wool ball in the oil and leave it on a saucer in front of the window.     This infestation by a tiny mite burrowing into your skin causes intense itching. Rub the whole body with neat lavender oil, then following every day until better with a mixture of lavender oil and alcohol. Change and wash bedding and clothes and sprinkle lavender oil on the mattress.
  17. Shingles
    Combine a mix of lavender oil with, analgesic, antiviral & scar preventing essential oils neat or on compresses on the agonizing lesions of shingles. It usually produces a cure within 5-8 days.
  18. Sinusitis

    My daughter recently had the worse eczema outbreak she has ever had and it is gradually getting worse. It started on the fold of both arms and was also below her lip, but has spread around the vicinity of her mouth and on her right eye.  I have been looking on-line for remedies and found a few that will hopefully provide relief and Lord willing get rid of it altogether. I will be applying ACV(Apple Cider Vinegar) twice daily to alleviate the itch. I also have a blend of oils that I put together that is helping to heal her irritated skin. I will also be using EMUgency spray to help with the itch once I get it in the mail along with Earth Mama Nipple Butter. A friend of mine mentioned how she had used nipple cream on her daughters chapped lips and how it worked within a short time to restore her skin. I thought I'd give it a try and hope that it'll work for my daughters eczema. I have already made changes to her diet so I hope to see some changes soon. She is not handling her diet change or her flare ups too well. She broke down in tears at the grocery store today. NEW Studies Reveal Alarming Hidden Cause of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in women worldwide and breast cancer rates are increasing rapidly. A compelling number of studies, though not all, have shown that free iron concentrations in breast tissue, especially the ductal tissue, is playing a major role in stimulating cancer development and eventual progression to aggressive, deadly cancers.1,2

Cancers are Very Dependent on Iron

Iron is needed for DNA replication in rapidly dividing cells.3
A recent report from the Department of Biomolecular Sciences in Urbino Italy, found that fluid taken from the nipple of cancer patients contained significantly higher levels of aluminum than did nipple fluid taken from women without breast cancer—approximately twice as much aluminum.4


A number of studies have found that extracting nipple fluid by a breast pump (in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women) is a simple way to study the microenvironment of the ductal tissue, the site of development of most breast cancers.5
Examining this ductal fluid is an excellent way to measure such things as iron levels, ferritin (an iron-binding protein), CRP (a measure of breast inflammation) and aluminum.

The researchers also found that women with breast cancer had much higher levels of ferritin, an iron transport protein, in their breast fluid, which was 5X higher in women with breast cancer.6


This observation has been confirmed in other studies.
In previous studies researchers found that one's intake of iron did not necessarily correlate with risk of breast cancer, but rather the release of iron from its protective proteins, such as ferritin and transferrin was critical.7


This distinction is very important and explains why some studies found no link between iron intake in the diet and breast cancer incidence.8

Breast thermography uses heat to detect abnormalities

The thermogram is a test using heat radiating from your own body to detect problems in the breast. It involves no contact with the body, no compression, and is completely painless. A thermogram combines advanced digital technology with ultra-sensitive infrared camera imaging. It does not use radiation, and can be done as frequently as anyone thinks is necessary. Thermograms work by creating infra-red images (heat pictures) that are then analyzed to find asymmetries anywhere in the chest and underarm area. Any abnormality that causes change in heat production is seen on a thermogram, so any source of inflammation such as infection, trauma to the breast, and even sun burn will cause abnormality in the thermal picture.

Breast thermography detects patterns of heat generated by the increased circulation produced by abnormal metabolic activity in cancer cells. This activity occurs long before a cancer starts to invade new tissue. A breast thermogram has the ability to identify a breast abnormality five to ten years before the problem can be found on a mammogram.

There is science behind this process

Normal tissue that is non-cancerous has a blood supply under the control of the autonomic nervous system. This system can either increase or decrease blood flow to cells. However, abnormal tissue indicating cancer or pre-cancer ensures its own survival by secreting chemicals that override the autonomic nervous system regulation, thereby creating its own steady blood supply. Cancers can be thought of as off the power grid of the body.

When a woman̢۪s hands are placed in cold water, an autonomic nervous system reflex occurs in the breasts. This reflex causes the blood vessels in non-cancerous tissue to constrict, but does not result in constriction of blood vessels supplying any cancerous growth. The resulting difference in blood flow can result in cancer showing up as hot spots on thermograms.

A study reported in the American Journal of Surgery, October edition, included 92 women who had undergone a breast biopsy based on prior mammogram or ultrasound results. 60 of the biopsies were malignant, and 34 were benign (two of the women had two biopsies). These women were then given thermograms. Results indicted the thermograms identified 58 of the 60 malignancies for a sensitivity rate of 97%.

Another study reported in the May-June edition of the Journal of Medical Engineering and Technology, reported a study of 15 women with palpable breast cancers who were preoperatively thermogrammed with three different infrared cameras - micro bolometer, quantum well, and photo voltaic - to compare the ability of these cameras to differentiate breast cancer from normal tissue. The quantum well and the photo voltaic cameras demonstrated the frequency difference between normal and cancerous breast tissue, with the photo voltaic camera displaying the greater clarity. The researchers reported that with selected image processing operations, more detailed frequency analyses could be applied to any suspicious area.

What goes on during a breast thermogram

Thermograms are taken at thermography centers. The woman disrobes above the waist and acclimates to room temperature for ten minutes after which the first of two series of images of the breasts is taken. Then the woman places her hands in cold water for one minute, after which the second set of images is taken. The images are evaluated by thermologists using signs and criteria established by the American Academy of Thermology to interpret thermogram data.

Breast thermograms do not diagnose breast cancer. They simply detect physiological changes in breast tissue that have been shown to correlate with the presence of cancer or pre-cancerous states as do mammograms. Breast cancer is only diagnosed by pathologist's microscopic examination of breast tissue.

Thermography centers have been around for several years in most major cities. They are definitely the wave of the future for early breast cancer detection. Amazingly, most traditional physicians do not know anything about them and continue to recommend mammograms.

Keratosis Pilaris-update

It has been a little over four months since my last KP post. Well I am happy to announce that other then the light spots that I have left; my skin is 95% smooth. I still have a few tiny bumps that are no where near as hard and dark as they used to be. My arms look and feel so much better.

I mentioned in my first KP post that there is no silver bullet. Since Dec. 2nd I have reduced my dairy intake. The only dairy I still eat is organic butter and just recently I had some cream cheese. I drink lots of water, Silk Almond milk, and occasionally I will have a cup of tea. I eat organic rolled oatmeal every morning, eggs with avocado, hummus, and toast for lunch, and Quinoa and vegetables with either chicken or beef for dinner. On occasion I'll eat raw veggies or a almond butter and blackberry sandwich for lunch. For dinner I sometimes eat spaghetti and meat or tacos. I am sure it is the combination of things that I am doing and eating that is helping to get rid of my KP.

The first group cycled for two hours a day at a moderate pace. The second group rode harder for 10 minutes a day in 60 second bursts. The last group cycled at an intense sprint for two minutes in 30-second bursts, with four minutes of rest in between each sprint.

At the end of the two weeks, each of the three groups was asked to repeat the 18.6 mile cycling test. Every subject was found to have improved to the same degree. Further tests showed that the rate at which the subjects' muscles were able to absorb oxygen also improved to the same level.

What this study showed is that in terms of overall health and fitness, the group that did just the two-minute workout produced the same muscle fitness results. In addition, this group also showed improved muscle enzymes which are essential for the prevention of Type 2 diabetes. Yet, the interesting correlation was that this group showed the same benefits of cardiovascular fitness as did the group who exercised for 10 times as long (20 minutes). Now that is a huge bonus in the face of growing levels of unfitness and obesity, which is becoming an epidemic in Australia, U.S. and the U.K.
The author of the study, Prof. Martin Gibala, of the Health Department of McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, said: "We thought there would be benefits but we did not expect them to be this obvious. It shows how effective short intense exercise can be."

The following excerpt from an article published in the UK Telegraph, "6 Minutes of Exercise A Week As Good As 6 Hours" by Peter Zimonjic, elaborates on this study.

"Just six minutes of intense exercise a week does as much to improve a person's fitness as a regime of six hours... Moderately healthy men and women could cut their workouts from two hours a day, three times a week, to just two minutes a day and still achieve the same results, claim medical researchers".

My Weight Loss

I don’t know about you but I am ready to shed this tire wrapped around my waist. I started this workout routine that I did a couple of years ago. I had great success then so I thought I'd give it a try again. It is called P.A.C.E (Progressively Accelerating Cardiopulmonary Exertion) It is a system of building strength in your heart and lungs. It is short burst of intense activity followed by recovery done in just under 10 minutes. I have worked out about 4 days in the last 7 days for only 8 minutes each day and have lost a pound. That is not too bad considering that I worked out a total of 32 minutes within 7 days.  My current weight is 132 lbs. My goal is to lose 12 lbs by July. I plan on updating my progress so stay tuned. ;-)

My routine:

15 sec. Jumping jacks
15 sec. Duck in a forward motion
15 sec. Shuffle
15 sec. Squat, thrust, and up/jump
15 sec. Punching
15 sec. Dirt diggers
Total 1 minute and 30 seconds. After I rest and my heart rate comes back down I start my bike routine.
On the bike.
30 sec. warm up
30 sec. Increase pace
1 min. Decrease pace but do not stop
1 min. Increase pace and resistance
1 min. Decrease pace
1 min. Increase pace and resistance but toward the end of the minute I give it all I got.
Total 5 minutes

I have not timed it but for about 2-3 minutes I do some resistance exercises.

This may not seem like much of a workout to most of you but believe it or not, when done right it works. When I first started P.A.C.E I was dropping so many inches that I stopped working out. My clothes were beginning to fit me too big and that was not good considering that about a month prior to that I purchased some new clothes that I did not want to get lost in. For those of you who decide that this may be for you let me know how it works out.
