Make Natural, Fragrant Bath and Skin Products at Home

By: Fleur Hupston
(NaturalNews) Commercially produced bubble bath, shower gels and body lotions are usually packed with synthetic chemicals. Yet, herbs, flowers and fruits have long been used in beauty treatments to refresh, cleanse and soothe, without the harmful effects that chemicals can have on the skin. Home made bath products are not expensive to produce, are beneficial to health and can also make wonderful gifts for loved ones.

Recipes for Bath Sachets, Body Lotions and Massage Oils

Natural, home made products have a shorter shelf life than commercially produced bath products because they do not contain preservatives, so be sure to store them in a cool place and use them up within a short period of time.

Lavender and Rose Geranium Massage Oil

1/4 cup lavender
1/4 cup rose geranium petals
1 cup apricot oil

Place the petals in a wide necked glass jar. Warm the apricot oil in a saucepan on a low heat, then pour over the petals and seal the jar. Leave in a warm spot for two weeks, shaking the jar each day. Once again, pour oil into a saucepan and gently warm it up over a low heat. Strain the oil through muslin and discard the petals. Pour into bottles and seal.

Bee Pollen: Nature Provides an Answer for Allergies

By: William Rudolph
(Natural News) It may seem counter intuitive to think that something with the word "pollen" in its title may actually be a powerful tool for combating pollen and other allergies. Yet the supporting evidence of bee pollen's prowess in helping people overcome seasonal and other allergy related conditions is impressive. In the early 90's, Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa became an advocate for natural health, crediting bee pollen with helping him alleviate symptoms related to his own seasonal allergies.

Allergies result from our body's response to something it has been exposed to, such as chemicals, by-products of the natural world, things we eat, drink, or breathe, or anything that comes in contact with our skin. If the body reacts adversely, such as the case with allergies, the body will release antibodies or histamines. This response is how the immune system attempts to remove or marginalize the impact of the foreign body. With allergies, the body can develop a chronic histamine response, resulting in inflammation throughout the body's skin, membranes, tissues, lungs, etc.

Heal and Prevent Heart Disease with Nutrition, Part 3

By: Tony Isaacs
(Natural News) The lack of natural nutrition found in our foods today is likely a leading contributor to heart disease. As health author Greg Ciola noted in his article "Whole Food Nutrition to the Rescue", our bodies are intended to be nourished by food and not from ground up rocks, petroleum by-products and coal-tar derivatives which make up more than 95 percent of all supplements...Most of the processed foods on our grocers' shelves have had vital nutrients processed out and often harmful additives processed in to enhance shelf life, taste, color and texture. Often those processed foods are then "fortified" with fake vitamins - the ground up rocks, petroleum by-products and coal tar derivatives...

Our Fast Food Expense-2007

I was in total disgust when my husband and I looked over our fast food expenses for the year 2007. It truly is a shame to know how much fast food we ate and the amount of money wasted. I am so thankful we are not fast food junkies anymore.

This year alone we ordered pizza maybe a hand full of times. When we do go out we usually pack a lunch, it takes a little extra time but is worth every minute.

Fast food is exactly what it is labeled fast food, chemically laden dead food. Food that is literally killing you. If you want to know the truth about the fast food industry and the food industry for that matter check out the movie Food Inc. You will never be the same, I hope.

If you want to eat better you can. Yes, it is a tad bit more expensive, but what is a couple of extra dollars compared to a medical bill because your health is deteriorating because of a poor diet. If you want to be healthy you have to eat healthy. Eating healthy does not consist of your occasional salad or even a diet, I hate that word. It is a lifestyle. Most people focus on the exterior not realizing that they are a walking cesspool. Don't be fooled by the skinny chick. If your diet consists of fast food, microwaved meals, soft drinks, snacks, and food that is so chemed (which happens to be most food on the grocery shelves) that all the nutrients are almost non existent than you are unhealthy and literally killing yourself. A Colon Hydro-therapist I had seen told me that death and health begin in the colon and I will never forget her words. There are so many people who are sick and they don't realize that they're sick because of their poor eating habits and what they are eating.

If you want to prevent disease then you have to start right in your kitchen. What are you eating? How often are you eating and drinking water? Do you supplement? If so, do they come from a good source? Are you getting what your body needs?

Here are a few tips to get you started on your way to health. Eat USDA Certified Organic food as much as possible. If you happen to have a farmers market near by shop there. Believe it or not you get better deals. If you eat meat, eat organic free range grass fed meat. If it is not available then look for products that do not have added hormones or antibiotics. Limit your dairy. Switch from white to whole wheat bread, from white to brown rice, you get the idea. Stop eating white sugar, it is like heroin to your body. You may not feel the effects of it because your body is so use to it, but it really is like a drug. I know, that is a hard one for all you sugar-addicts out there who just have to have the last twinkie but you can do it, I did.

Transitioning to a healthy lifestyle takes time so don't fret, or get your skivvies in a bunch. Take baby steps. Set some goals and make one change a week and before you know you will be on your way to good health.

To your health.

Fast Food, Junk Food

By Andrew Saul

It is a matter of common knowledge that any processing that foods undergo serves to make them more harmful than unprocessed foods."

(McDonald's Corporation legal statement, shown in the documentary "Supersize Me")

"People’s minds are changed through observation and not through argument."

(Will Rogers)

Why, why, why are so many, many, many people so sick, sick, sick? The main reason is staring right back at them from their dinner. It's the junk food, people. An ever-increasing proportion of our food is fast food.

"In 1970, Americans spent about $6 billion on fast food; in 2000, they spent more than $110 billion," writes Eric Schlosser in his book Fast Food Nation. "They spend more on fast food than on movies, books, magazines, newspapers, videos, and recorded music - combined. . . On any given day in the United States, about one-quarter of the adult population visits a fast food restaurant." (p 3)

What does this mean to our health? Everything. Fast food is a high-additive, high-fat, high-meat, high-sugar, and high-salt diet. And what's just as bad, it's a low-fiber, low vitamin, low mineral diet to boot. Fast food is exactly the wrong way to eat.

And we are teaching our kids just how to do it . . .wrong.

Chapter 2 discusses how the fast-food industry sells to kids, especially in schools. This is the last thing we need; a typical teenage boy already drinks 20 oz of soda a day. Indoctrination starts early: page 30 of Fast Food Nation shows a superb photo of Ronald McDonald speaking to a large room full of enraptured elementary schoolchildren. How can this be?

Because the cafeterias in so many of our school districts are for sale for the right price. The actual franchise income that any school district may get pales when compared to what fast food industry takes in. After all, says Schlosser, "A medium Coke that sells for $1.29 contains roughly 9 cents' worth of syrup."

Adults are to blame. We, not our kids, are the ones who allowed fast food in our schools. We are the ones who let Harlem Memorial Hospital contain its very own McDonald's. It is our money that enables McDonald's to open FIVE new restaurants every DAY. It is our U.S. Federal Communications Commission and our U.S. Federal Trade Commission that permit every American child to watch 10,000 television food ads every year. Are these ads for carrots? Not according to Yale professor Kelly Brownell, PhD., who says that 95% of TV food commercials promote candy, soft drinks and fast food.

Boost Immunity with Four Natural Foods and Supplements

By: Elizabeth Walling, citizen journalist

(NaturalNews) Far from images of hand sanitizer and face masks, real protection from modern disease and illness happens from the inside out. Building a strong immune system is one of the most important steps in preventing the spread of modern illness. The best way to improve your immunity is through natural foods and supplements like these:

Vitamin D

An important regulator in immune response, vitamin D is a key factor in maintaining strong immunity. The properties of vitamin D activate the body's natural defense against pathogens and viruses, triggering the proper response when the body is exposed to a harmful microorganism.

Natural food sources for vitamin D include egg yolk, Atlantic herring, shrimp and other types of seafood. However, vitamin D supplementation is generally recommended in addition to a healthy diet. Ideally you should supplement with a source like fermented cod liver oil, which is a highly concentrated source of natural vitamin D. Otherwise, a high-quality vitamin D3 supplement is the next best choice.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains important fatty acids, like lauric acid, which are used by the body to manufacture specialized antimicrobial, antifungal and antiviral substances. Coconut oil is such a ready source of these valuable nutrients; it should be included in the diet of anyone with the goal of improving their immunity. Extra virgin coconut oil is unrefined and will retain the most natural benefits. You can also include foods like unsweetened dried coconut or coconut milk to access these important fatty acids.

Use Natural and Alternative Help for Fibromyalgia

Sunday, March 14, 2010 by: Tony Isaacs, citizen journalist

NaturalNews) Fibromyalgia is a misunderstood and frequently misdiagnosed condition. It is characterized by widespread chronic pain involving multiple "tender points" in the upper neck, back, shoulders, and hips. Treatments, such as painkillers, antidepressants, muscle relaxants, and the injections of anesthetics are rarely effective. However, many may find relief from nature and alternatives as opposed to mainstream drugs and treatments.

A natural alternative which may heal fibromyalgia is to take plenty of colloidal silver (start off with 2-4 ounces per day and maintain at least an ounce a day until you achieve satisfactory results) and plenty of proteolytic/digestive enzymes to dissolve the fibrin (take up to 5 or more capsules two to three times daily on an empty stomach).

Here are some additional options:

Curcumin, magnesium, blackseed oil (Nigella sativa) and herbal oleander extract are all powerful immune modulators which may help. Magnesium deficiency has been associated with Fibromyalgia and it is estimated that as many as 80 to 95% of us are deficient in magnesium.

If mainstream medicine really works, why are Americans so unhealthy?

Monday, April 12, 2010
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

(NaturalNews) Did you ever wonder why such an alarmingly high percentage of Americans are obese, diabetic, depressed and suffering from cancer, heart disease, kidney disorders and skin problems? Now consider the fact that Americans pay more per capita for health care than any other nation in the world. Americans pay the highest prices, by far, for medications, medical imaging scans, blood work, surgeries, chemotherapy and hospital stays. And yet what does America have to show for it? The most universally diseased population in the world -- and a nation on the verge of bankruptcy caused in part by mainstream medicine.

But this isn't a slam on America itself: It's an indictment of the mainstream medical system that has been running a monopoly medical racket in America for roughly the last hundred years. Under the system of monopolistic medical practices enforced by the FDA, AMA, FTC and state medical boards, "mainstream medicine" has taken a nation that was once relatively healthy and turned it into a disease dystopia where patients are actually taught that nutrition doesn't work and that they must submit to patented chemicals in order to be "normal" or healthy.

Mainstream medicine has reached such a level of insanity that its corporations now claim intellectual ownership over nearly 20 percent of the human genome. This has all been done to create a corporate monopoly over human genes in the same way that mainstream medicine has already created an FDA-enforced monopoly over isolated chemicals -- many of which were ripped off from nature.

What's really in that burger?

By: Mike Adams, The Health Ranger.

(NaturalNews) There are 14 billion hamburgers consumed each year in the United States alone. The people who eat those burgers, though, have little knowledge of what's actually in them. Current USDA regulations, for example, openly allow beef contaminated with E. coli to be repackaged, cooked and sold as ready-to-eat hamburgers.

This simple fact would shock most consumers if they knew about it. People assume that beef found to be contaminated with E. coli must be thrown out or destroyed (or even recalled), but in reality, it's often just pressed into hamburger patties, cooked, and sold to consumers. This practice is openly endorsed by the USDA.

But E. coli may not be the worst thing in your burger: USDA regulations also allow chicken feces to be used as feed for cows, meaning your hamburger beef may be made of second-hand chicken poop, recycled through the stomachs of cows.

Breast Milk: A Perfect Food

In humans as well as other mammals, a newborn’s very first meal of colostrum is of great significance to its health and well-being for the rest of its life. The immune system of the newborn is not fully developed, making it highly susceptible to numerous pathogens, antigens and allergens. Colostrum provided in breast milk contains all the needed immune factors that are essential to activate, regulate and balance the immune system. This is of great significance as the newborn’s own system develops.

Mother’s milk provides the perfectly assigned, individualized nutritional food to promote passive immunity and proper growth and development. As mammals grow, essential glycoproteins in breast milk keep the immune system functional.

Nutritional Support + Immunity

Mother’s milk provides both immunity (passive and active) and nutritional benefits. The lipids, carbohydrates, amino acids and other nutrients provide the baby with ideal nutrition and, therefore, enhance the overall health of the baby. Colostrum provides rich immune factors to sensitive newborns that cannot yet fend for themselves. Peyer’s patches, found throughout the intestinal tract, and groups of immunoactive cells in the bronchial mucosa that destroy allergens, antigens and pathogens, are not yet operative in the newborn.

Colostrum contains antibodies against E. coli, Salmonells, Shigells v. cholera, Bacteriodes fragilis, Streptococcus pneumonia, Bordtella pertussis, Clostridium diphtheria, Streptococcus mutans, clostridium tetani and Candida albicans. Breast feeding was also found to be effective against the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Research shows that both anti-HCV antibody and HCV-ribonucleic acid are present in colostrum.

Babies deprived of breast milk are simply not as healthy as those who are breast-fed. Non-breast fed babies develop eczema, food and upper respiratory allergies and gastrointestinal problems at a much higher rate than breast-fed babies do. Acquired maternal antibodies are also transferred through breast feeding and will protect the baby. If the mother has contracted a disease such as measles, pertussis, or mumps, sometime prior to pregnancy, she has developed antibodies against them making her immune to re-infection. These antibodies are passed on in her breast milk to protect the baby from contracting these conditions while breast feeding. This is a most critical time of growth and development. Breast-fed babies who do contract these conditions later will experience a milder condition with far fewer complications compared to non-breast-fed babies.
